Huaraz (3,100m) – Queropalca (3,831m)
We depart from Huaraz at the scheduled time, usually around 8:00 am, after picking you up from your accommodation. Our approximately 8-hour journey will take you through the southern valley of Callejon de Huaylas, passing by the Conococha lagoon and crossing the 4647m mountain pass. Along the way, you can admire the snow-capped peaks of the Cordillera Blanca, and we will make several stops for photo opportunities. Once we have crossed the pass, we will descend to the eastern side of the mountain, passing through some open mines and Andean villages such as Huallanca and La Union. Finally, we will arrive at the village of Queropalca around 4 pm, where we will check into the designated accommodation and spend the night there.
Queropalca - Carhuacocha (4,138m)
After enjoying a hearty breakfast, we will embark on our exciting first day of trekking. We will gently ascend through the Andean valley, and as we progress, the majestic snow-capped peaks will gradually reveal themselves. Throughout our journey, you will have the opportunity to observe local families engaged in sheep farming, immersing yourself in the authenticity of Andean life.
After a half-day of hiking, we will arrive at the Carhuacocha camp (4,138m), located near the impressive lagoon of the same name. This awe-inspiring location provides a memorable camping experience, surrounded by the imposing peaks of Yerupaja, Siula, and Jirishanca. Our tents will already be set up, allowing you to simply relax and enjoy the rest of the afternoon in this magnificent setting.
Extra day in Carhuacocha ~ hike to Siula viewpoint (4,550m)
Ascend gently along Carhuacocha Lake's shores, through a narrowing valley toward the base of Nevado Siula Grande. Conquer a challenging slope to reach the Siula viewpoint, unveiling a breathtaking panorama. Behold the beauty of Grangrajanca, Siula, and Quesillococha lakes in the valley, along with the majestic Sarapo, Carnicero, Siula Grande, and Jurao glaciers. Enjoy a delicious lunch amidst this remarkable scenery before returning to our Carhuacocha campsite. Experience the natural wonders of the Huayhuash range, creating an unforgettable day.
Carhuacocha (4,138m) – Mitucocha (4,270m)
Embark on our expedition and conquer the first pass, Paso de Yanapunta, at 4,630 meters. Witness the mesmerizing sunrise over Carhuacocha before a three-hour ascent through Yanayana Valley, offering magnificent views. Follow the trail through Wayac Valley, enjoying a satisfying lunch along the way. Gradually descend to the picturesque Tuctucpampa plains, tracing the Janca River. Arrive at our campsite in Mitucocha after three hours of descent. In the afternoon, explore the captivating Mitucocha Lagoon and soak in the presence of Ninashanca and Jirishanca mountains.
Mitucocha (4,270m) – Jancacota ( 4,100m)
Today, we bid farewell to Mitucoch. The initial rays of sunlight will grace the Nevado Jirishanca and Ninashanca, presenting a magnificent vista of the radiant morning. Our day commences with a gentle descent towards Janca, followed by our journey towards the Cananapunta pass, standing at an elevation of 4690 meters. During the gradual ascent of around 2.5 hours, you will have ample opportunities to pause and admire the scenic valley known as Caliente. This valley boasts a picturesque swamp nourished by streams of geothermal water emanating from the depths of the earth. Once we cross the pass, a descent into the Cunchush Valley awaits us, spanning approximately 2.5 hours. From there, we shall proceed to our Jancota camp, situated in the Rondoy Valley, where you will be treated to a breathtaking view of the majestic Nevado Rondoy.
Jancacota (4,100m) - Jahuacocha (4,060m)
Conquer ultimate high passes, witness majestic mountains, and relish a captivating sunset. Ascend gradually, navigate a winding path, and reach the Rondoy Pass at 4750 m for a close-up view of Rondoy mountain. Continue to the Sambuya Pass at 4740 m, offering panoramic vistas of Jirishanca, Yerupaja, and Solterococha Lagoon. Descend along a precipitous trail for 2.5 hours, intimately appreciating the awe-inspiring sights. Conclude the journey with a gentle descent to our campsite near Jahuacocha Lagoon, where the evening unfolds with an extraordinary sunset.
Jahuacocha –Llamac - Huaraz
Conclude our 7-day Huayhuash adventure with a return journey to Huaraz. After packing up and enjoying breakfast, we head to Llamac village (3,250m). The trek begins with a gentle 40-minute descent, followed by a gradual ascent to the Marashpunta pass (4,272m). Take a well-deserved break to admire the mountain vistas before a 2.5-hour descent to Llamac. Our waiting vehicle will transport us back to Huaraz, a 4-5 hour journey. Reflect on our remarkable expedition during the trip, expecting to reach Huaraz by 4-5 pm, marking the end of our unforgettable adventure.
