Acclimatization and Physical Preparation
The 8-day Huayhuash Trek is much harder than the classic circuit. It involves longer walks, high-altitude trekking, and steep ascents and descents. Therefore, proper preparation is essential:
- Acclimatization: Spend at least 4–5 days at high altitudes (3,500–4,800 meters) before the trek to reduce the risk of altitude sickness.
- Endurance Training: Improve stamina with cardio exercises such as hiking, running, or cycling.
- Strength Training: Focus on leg workouts (squats, lunges) to handle steep climbs and descents.
- Proper Gear: Use high-quality trekking boots, warm clothing, and hiking poles for safety on rugged terrain.
