Mateo Climb: Mount Pequeño Contrayerba is a small snow-capped mountain that forms part of the Contrayerba mountain massif, situated along the ridge of Punta Olimpica Pass. Referred to as Mount Mateo, this peak offers an ideal opportunity for individuals interested in venturing into mountaineering within the Cordillera Blanca mountain range. Boasting convenient accessibility and a non-technical climbing route in the form of an ice hike, climbers ascend with the guidance of experienced professionals and are equipped with essential mountaineering gear, ensuring a memorable and safe initial ascent. the climbing encompasses more than merely pushing personal boundaries; it encompasses the opportunity to immerse oneself in the awe-inspiring panorama, while the gentle mountain breeze and the radiant sunrise envelop the climber in a truly remarkable experience.
- ITINERARY
Huaraz - Punta Olímpica - Mateo Mountain Summit
Tour Duration: Approximately 12 hours
Departure from Huaraz: We will depart promptly at 2-3 am from Huaraz. Our pick-up service will be available exclusively for accommodations located within Huaraz town.
Route Overview: Our journey begins by driving through the picturesque Callejon de Huaylas Valley, heading towards Carhuaz City. From there, we will proceed toward the Ulta sector of Huascaran National Park.
Entrance Fee: Along the way, we will make a brief stop to pay the entrance fee to Huascaran National Park. The fee is 60 soles per person.
Driving Duration: The drive from Huaraz to the Punta Olimpica parking area, situated at an altitude of 4750 m.a.s.l, will take approximately 2 hours.
Approach and Ascent: After enjoying an early breakfast, we will embark on a walk along a flat and short path to reach the base of the rocky mountain. From there, we will begin our ascent, following an unmarked slope that leads to the edge of the glacier. At this point, we will equip ourselves with the necessary climbing gear to traverse the icy terrain. The ascent will take around 2-1/2 hours.
Summit Experience: Once we reach the summit, we will take a well-deserved break to capture breathtaking photographs and relish the panoramic views. You will have ample time to immerse yourself in the beauty of the surroundings before we start our descent.
Return: We will descend along the same route and return to our vehicle. From there, we will make our way back to Huaraz, concluding the tour around 1-3 pm
